What is a HIGH GRADE ALUMINUM Panel?

Other metal panels on the market use steel or iron and is then powder coated with the paint color of choice.  This method works if it's made for it's own case design, but is not the best method if you're going to use this panel for other cases

Our definition on what makes our panels HIGH GRADE focus on these three categories:   Aesthetics.  Perfect Fit.  Customization.

Aesthetics

When we set out to make our High Grade replacement panels, we didn't just want it to serve the minimum requirement, which is to change the button layout.  We wanted to create a WOW! factor in terms of the way it looks when it's fully assembled.  To us, a premium panel meant it had to add something to the look and also feel.  What we concluded was a panel that was anodized for color and brushed on the surface for a premium look and feel.   Other metal panels out on the market use the powder coated metal simply because it's cheaper to do as well as easier to do, but the end result is a panel that we feel only serves as a button layout replacement, not one that turns heads

A Perfect Fit

Using aluminum, we're able to cut the sheet to the exact dimension of the panel it replaces.  What this means is the length, width and most importantly, height is perfect and fills in all the gaps.  The result?  A panel mod that looks like it came straight from the factory and not one that looks like an after market product

Customization

You can add more of the wow factor by personalizing your panel with custom artwork or logo with our engraving services.  With an anodized aluminum panel (coloring the panel by an electric charge) you're able to create artwork or text that is razor sharp because the whole panel is the color you see on the top, including the layers below it.  What this does is when you laser engrave a anodized panel, you're not chipping off paint (as you would with a powder coated steel panel), but actually "painting" the image with a fine pointed laser

Brushed Aluminum vs Steel Panels

While some say the quality of steel is better than aluminum, we don't argue that one bit when it comes to strength

We agree with this point so much that we use a steel panel as the bottom support panel (for applicable models) for strength, where it's needed and a brushed aluminum panel for the top, where it shines, for presentation.   Read more below to see why our choice in how a metal panel separates us from the rest

Stock Panel Removal Process

STEP 1

REMOVE THE BOTTOM PANEL

By unscrewing the screws with a philips head screw driver

This is a good time to take a picture with your phone or a digital camera of the wiring for the pushbuttons and the joystick harness as you'll need to reinstsall this later

Remove the joystick and all the pushbuttons accordingly.  For the joystick, a standard Philips screwdriver will do.  For the pushbuttons, disconnect the wires by using a needle nose pliers (the easiest way to remove them without hurting your fingers).  To remove the pushbuttons, you can use the tip of the needle nose pliers to push each tab if the space is tight, otherwise, you can also use your fingers and push both tabs at the same time to push the button through

STEP 2

REMOVE THE TOP PANEL

To remove the top panel (artwork and metal panel), you'll have to remove the stock artwork that is held by a strong adhesive to access the screws underneath.  A heat gun (set at a moderate temperature, otherwise you can damage the plastic casing) used at one of the corners of the panel will help lift the edge, which will allow you to pull the rest of the panel off by slowing moving your way through the panel.  You can also pull the panel off without a heat gun, by lifting one of the corners with a small flat head, however, this is a bit more difficult due to the strong adhesive, but a little muscle will accomplish this.  It's okay to damage the stock artwork as you won't need it anymore and chances are, it won't be in any condition where you'd want to use it again

Once the artwork is removed, you'll find 6 screws that holds down the metal panel.  Remove these screws to take off the metal panel. 

NOTE:  Save the stock screws as you will use these for the replacement aluminum panel

STEP 3

MAKE YOUR MARKS

You'll need to Dremel plastic to make room for the top 4 pushbuttons.  Place the panel (do not screw the panel down yet) over the bare HRAP4/V case, make your marks of where you'll need to Dremel by either using a Xacto knife or mark it with a non-black Sharpie (metallic / gold).  Remove the panel and Dremel the plastic to make space for the pushbuttons

STEP 4

REINSTALL Pushbuttons and Install SOCD Cleaner Kit

Reinstall the action buttons using the picture you took in STEP 1 as the wiring diagram.  For the directional buttons, refer to THIS GUIDE in the SOCD Cleaner install section, which will instruct you how to install that as well as the directional buttons
